Heroes gone streaking

By Rebecca Bieman

Since April 2011 Guelph has become quite the colourful place. Children, students, families, seniors, even dogs have started streaking! Founder and local Bookmobile driver Tricia Gray is the inspirational master mind behind this incredible local campaign.

“Streak for Cancer”, an intentional play on words, aims to encourage visual awareness through a public display of support while raising funds for 12 specific cancer research organizations. Funds are raised through the sale of coloured hair extensions ($10 a streak) at selected Guelph hair salons. The streaks are offered in 12 different colours – each colour representing one of the cancers the campaign is supporting. Streak for Cancer will be running from April 2011 to April 2012.

After 5 months, Streak for Cancer has been able to significantly contribute to cancer research and is optimistically looking forward to the remaining 8 months of the campaign!

Trish’s creativity and community spirit is an inspiration to all of us. She is proof that one person’s idea really can make a difference and turn into something incredible.

So what are you waiting for?! Check out Streak for Cancer on Facebook and START STREAKING!
